In nine short months, I’ve used up my supply of the word creepy when responding to the heavy-handedness of all this Hope and Change.
The Obama administration’s penchant for silencing dissent, epitomized by its childish public battle with Fox News, shows a complete disregard for the First Amendment, which is thought of by most as the cornerstone of the Constitution. Once the powers-that-be decide to take a dump on that, it’s pretty easy to scrap the rest of the Constitution.
A frequent liberal foe (the good kind) of mine on Twitter said yesterday that he doesn’t much subscribe to slippery slope arguments. Honestly, neither do I unless we’re talking about the federal government overstepping its Constitutionally delineated authority.
That’s just, you know, creepy.
Historically, governments that have run amok have begun with the “we’re just helping do what’s best for the people” premise. Perhaps many of them sincerely believed that, as I occasionally hope this group does (On less cynical days, I keep hoping that this isn’t merely a calculated power grab).
What makes Leahy’s words all the more egregious is the fact that he’s obviously one of the many in Washington who no longer grasp the underlying principles of a representative republic. Despite the noise made by the Tea Parties last summer, the vast majority of our elected representatives still seem to think that this is a top-down, reverse representation system. That is, they make decisions for us and we then represent the world that they believe should be created.
I have yet to meet, or hear a speech from, a politician who gave me the sense that he or she could make better decisions about what’s best for me than I can.
Ed points out in the post at Hot Air that plenty of people are questioning that which Leahy swears isn’t being questioned.
Here’s your dinner, Sen. Leahy: a steaming plate of “disconnect” and a vintage bottle of “Elitist P***k”. Enjoy.
What I find most ironic about this is that the modern progressive Democrats are led by 60’s Vietnam-era radicals who abhorred the government and establishment in all forms. They’ve taken that which they so loathed and put it on steroids and junk-food. As I told my Twitter foil, one day all self respecting, true liberals are going to wake up from this Obama coma and scream, “WTF was I thinking?!?!?”
The ONLY way for this to end well is for the people with the condescending, elitist mindsets to be driven as far as possible from the centers of power in this country. Let them know that they have indeed been questioned, found wanting and are more than welcome to go practice their vision of government in some place like Cuba.
Where people expect that crap.

WTF!! I don’t know who decided to print your message in grey on a black background. It makes it almost impossible to read. Rather than strain my eyes to read it I decided to just send you a message and forget about your article.
am a nearly 60 yr old woman(working on it)and i read this article in spite of the eye strain. You can’t overdo the word creepy.having flashbacks to Nixon. Yep,that bad and i wonder how the czars got by the FBI background check. You have to be kidding.Anyway, reminds me of Nixon but with more hubris. They’re not making any attempt to hide some of what they’re dong-so you can only begin to imagine what’s going on behind closed doors. Your article was excellent! i had to read.
However, white on a black background is better on the eyes if you insist on black.
Not criticizing you.Just sayin for your beneift.
