Here’s a story I talked about while recording a guest host spot on Raisin’ Hale (for my good friend Tabitha Hale) on RFCRadio.com last night. Michelle Malkin explores it today with some bonus material.

The free press in the United States once stood for something. The Constitution ensured its freedom so it could act as a vigilant watchdog for the citizens of this country. The classic modern example is Watergate, of course. An unhinged, dishonest president thoroughly abused his position and would have gotten away with it had it not been for the efforts of two newspaper reporters.

That’s the way things are supposed to work.

Welcome now to the Age of the Lightbringer and a press corps that’s virtually indistinguishable from a litter of incontinent puppies each time the president speaks.

Here are a couple of the gems from the ignored and very disturbing rage at George W. Bush’s appearance in Portland:

“BUSH: WANTED, DEAD OR ALIVE,” read the placard, which had an X over the word “ALIVE.”

Another poster showed Bush’s face with the words: “F— YOU, MOTHERF—ER!”

A third sign urged motorists to “HONK IF YOU HATE BUSH.” A fourth declared: “CHRISTIAN FASCISM,” with a swastika in place of the letter S in each word.

I wonder if darling little Julia from the New Hampshire town hall would find any of these signs “mean”.

Although reporters from numerous national news organizations were traveling with Bush and witnessed the protest, none reported that protesters were shrieking at Republican donors epithets like “Slut!” “Whore!” and “Fascists!”

Perhaps all of the camera people were cleaning their lenses at the exact same time and it just happened to be when they passed these peace loving lefties. Hey, I keep a little benefit of the doubt in my back pocket.

Oops, looks like I’m all out now.

Contrast this story with the advocacy leg-humping that the press has been doing with President Obama during his Fake Town Hall tour (Which not only features plants, but fake plants!).

Frustrated, sincere citizens are becoming frustrated with the dismissive, elite arrogance of their elected representatives and are trying to make their voices heard. If they happen to raise their voices in order to get heard, the leg-humpies call them violent. The Senate Majority Leader calls them un-American. The Botox Hag calls them Nazis. The rest, too tired to exercise their few remaining brain cells, call them racists.

And it call gets dutifully reported by a press corps that wouldn’t know an act of journalism if the ghosts of Walter Cronkite and Edward R. Murrow showed up and explained it to them with pretty pictures while kicking Keith Olbermann’s ass out the door for never having spoken an honest word in his life.

My previous post featured the closest thing we’ve seen to reporting in a newspaper in quite a while. It happened in USA TODAY, of all places. Still, it wasn’t a feature article but a sidebar piece that still ignored the biggest lie the president has been repeating on to the fake plants, namely that he’s never supported a single payer system. A commenter who disagreed with me grudgingly admitted that there “appears” to be some record of the president supporting it in the past.

No, there’s video.

If there were any real journalists left in America this video would have been trotted out on the news (a modern day misnomer) immediately. Instead, one had to hit the rightie blogs to find it.

We no longer have a press corps covering the President of the United States, we have the largest gathering of publicists devoted to one cause ever seen in American politics. These people are incapable of separating their personal feelings from their work. That’s fine if you’re a poet (or a comic) but not very responsible if you purport to be a journalist. They have a personal stake in the success of President Obama. Thus far, only the pants-peeing Chris Matthews has had a big enough pair to admit this.

While I was writing this, I just came across this post on Michelle Malkin’s site (yeah, I check it out a lot).

“We”. That’s all you need to know.

They’re in it together.
